TURTLE BOWL – « THE GUINEAS SIRE »
14 May 2012
What a weekend ! What a stallion !
LUCAYAN (Turtle Bowl / La Vltava) came out the winner in a exciting six horse finish in the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp on Sunday. The François ROHAUT trained colt showed his incredible turn of foot when jockey Stéphane Pasquier found a gap up the centre of the straight and raced up to win by a neck. LUCAYAN who is already a Listed winner, has won or been 2nd in all of his 5 starts. He was bought for € 85,000 by owners Anthony Forde and Ahmed Mouknass at the Arqana Breeze up sale last year. He is TURTLE BOWL’s second Gr.1 winner from his first crop (like top French sire ANABAA), following on from FRENCH FIFTEEN’s Gr.1 Critérium International win and 2nd place in the Gr.1 2000 Guineas a week ago. TURTLE BOWL is currently leading sire of 3-year-olds in France.
FRENCH FIFTEEN almost does it in 2000 Guineas !
08 May 2012
"It was so close" !
FRENCH FIFTEEN (Turtle Bowl x Spring Morning) had our hearts racing in the final stages of the Gr.1 Qipco 2000 Guineas on Saturday when he battled it out against CAMELOT (Montjeu) who won by a neck at the post. FRENCH FIFTEEN showed his great turn of foot when asked to accelerate by Olivier Peslier and he stuck to CAMELOT never backing down and forcing Joseph O’Brien to give his all. Trainer Nicolas Clement has indicated that FRENCH FIFTEEN may now be aimed at the Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club or the Gr.1 St. James Palace Stakes.
LUCAYAN scores in Listed
30 April 2012
LUCAYAN (Turtle Bowl / La Vltava) took the Listed Prix FBA Aymeri de Mauléon at Toulouse last Friday for trainer François Rohaut. LUCAYAN has won 2 of his four starts and and finished second twice including in his last race, the Listed Prix Omnium II in March.
The next day the François Rohaut bred and trained BORODINO (Turtle Bowl / Baie) won the Prix du Parc Borély at La Teste de Buch.
TURTLE BOWL makes a great start to 2012 !
11 April 2012
FRENCH FIFTEEN’s impressive win in the Gr.3 Prix Djebel at Maisons Laffitte on April 5th, put TURTLE BOWL well up at the top of the list of 2nd crop sires.
TURTLE BOWL’s best son so far, FRENCH FIFTEEN was just confirming the talent that he showed at 2, which culminated with his win in the Gr.1 Critérium International. He will now be aimed at the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket where he is sure to fly the flag for France and French breeding.
Also from TURTLE BOWL’s 1st crop, the colt ESTEFAN (Ever in Love) was an easy winner of a good D race at Chantilly. The François Rohaut trained colt LUCAYAN (La Vltava) who won a 2, followed that with 2 strong second places which included the Listed Prix Omnium II where he was unlucky not to win.
The filly KEIRA (Nazlia) who is trained by Jean- Claude Rouget, looks to be an exciting feminine prospect with a win and 2 second places under her belt.
TURTLE BOWL’s breeding season is well underway and he continues to have excellent fertility. He has 85 mares booked to date, a number which is sure to increase with the Prix Djebel victory.
FRENCH FIFTEEN WINS THE Gr.3 PRIX DJEBEL

ESTEFAN WINS AT CHANTILLY
26 March 2012
All eyes were on the favorite QIZWEEN (Muhtathir) in last Friday’s Prix du Val Saint-Georges at Chantilly, as he was making his first outing this year after winning his two races at 2. However, it was the German trained ESTEFAN (Turtle Bowl / Ever in Love) who was the impressive winner under jockey Andrasch Starke. Bred by Mathieu Daguzan-Garros and Ecurie Biraben, and sold as a foal at the Arqana Breeding Sale, ESTEFAN was having his second outing and looks to be an exciting prospect for ‘Arc’ trainer Peter Schiergen
TURTLE GREEN WINS AT TOULOUSE
20 March 2012

FRENCH FIFTEEN comes home with a vengeance
31 October 2011
The French fifteen of the French rugby team may have been pipped at the post by the All Blacks in the World Cup, but nobody could steal victory from R&M homebred FRENCH FIFTEEN (Turtle Bowl ex Spring Morning) yesterday when he flew home to win the Gr.1 Criterium International at Saint Cloud. This impressive win puts him amongst the best 2-year-olds in France in 2011 and makes him a classic contender for 2012. Trainer Nicolas Clement (on behalf of owner Raymond Tooth) paid € 30,000 for FRENCH FIFTEEN at Arqana August Sales 2010 from the R & M consignment. His dam SPRING MORNING (Ashkalani ex. Zarzaya) an R & M mare, is a from a prominent Aga Khan family, as she is a descendant of Petite Etoile, and her family includes the champion ZARKAVA. SPRING MORNING does not have a foal in 2011 and is in-foal to R & M stallion MARTALINE. Sire TURTLE BOWL, whose dam is multiple group producer Clara Bow, was himself a Group 1 winner (Prix Jean Prat) for owner Berend Van Dalfsen who continues to support the stallion at stud, sending many of his good mares to him each year.

With already 2 winners from just 4 runners TURTLE BOWL looks to be a stallion to follow.
First 2YO winner for TURTLE BOWL !
23 May 2011
R&M stallion TURTLE BOWL had his first 2-year-old winner when the homebred FRENCH FIFTEEN (Spring Morning x Askalani) won at Wissembourg, on his second outing. The chestnut colt was sold by R & M at Arqana August 2010 for € 30,000 to trainer Nicolas Clement, on behalf of his client Raymond Tooth. His dam Spring Morning has Petite Etoile on her maternelle side and so, is herself a cousin of Zarkava.
TURTLE BOWL was a top miler winning the Gr.1 Prix Jean Prat , and placed in the Ispahan, Jacques le Marois and Queen Anne Stks. Trained by François Rohaut, Turtle Bowl was a winner at 2 and raced until 5-years-old. Arqana Breeding Stock Sale 2010
14 December 2010

The yearlings, and the foals from R&M stallion TURTLE BOWL were very well received at the Arqana sales this year.
These impressive individuals are of good size, with plenty of bone and have the calm temperament of their sire.
The future looks very promising for this first crop who we look forward to seeing on the racecourse in 2011.

Pedigree Notes

Turtle Bowl, the Prix Jean Prat (Gr 1) winner, is by the Night Shift son, Dyhim Diamond, a sire line known for versatility having produced over 110 stakes winners. Turtle Bowl will therefore offer breeders plenty of opportunity particularly as he stems from one of Europe's finest families as he is a half-brother to not only Turtle Bow (Gr 2) but also Gr 3 winner Age Of Aquarius.

The SADLER'S WELLS/FAIRY KING branch of the Northern Dancer line are sure to suit Turtle Bowl. Fairy King's son Turtle Island is the sire of Turtle Bowl's high-class-sister Turtle Bow, so daughters of other Fairy King line daughters such as Helissio and Revoque could be ideal. Sadler's Wells line daughters will also create the same cross and in particular those by Galileo, the sire Turtle Bowl's half-brother, Age Of Aquarius. Turtle Bowl's dam-sire, Top Ville, is also the dam-sire of Montjeu which also suggests most daughters of the Sadler's Wells line will be very exciting.

The Night Shift sire line is also well suited with the NIJINSKY line with daughters of Caerleon looking particular attractive. Mares from the Nijinsky strains such as Niniski, Green Dancer, Ile de Bourbon and Royal Academy are sure to create the same effect.

The NUREYEV line has also given the Night Shift sire line success through mares by Peintre Celebre and Soviet Star, so daughters of Fasliyev, Pivotal and Spinning World will also appeal.

All the DANZIG branches are also sure to suit Turtle Bowl. Dyhim Diamond has produced Don Ramiro (L) to a Dayjur daughter, while Green Desert is the dam-sire to another Night Shift line stakes winner. With this, mares also from the Danehill, Chief's Crown and Anabaa strains look great opportunities for Turtle Bowl.

The Nasrullah line branches looks extremely well suited for Turtle Bowl. The NEVER BEND cross with the Night Shift line has produced 9 stakes winners including Dyhim Diamond's Gr 1 winner Bannaby, who is out of a daughter of Lashkari. Night Shift has also sired stakes winners out of daughters of Glint Of Gold, Mill Reef, Shirley Heights, Reference Point, Lahib, Doyoun and Darshaan, who is also Azamour second dam-sire. BLUSHING GROOM's son, Marignan is another dam-sire who has produced a stakes winner for Dyhim Diamond. With this, most mares from this Blushing Groom sire line look well position for success. These would include Rahy, Rainbow Quest, Arazi, Sillary and Samuaruz to name a few. The GREY SOVEREIGN line has not only proven success with Night Shift but also with Turtle Bowl's family as his Listed-placed half-brother, Whitton Court, is a son of Cardoun (Kaldoun). Night Shift has sired two Gr 2 winners out of daughters of Kenmare (sire of Highest Honor) and Siberian Express. With this, most daughters from this Grey Sovereign branch will be ideal.

Night Shift's four time Gr 1 winner Azamour is out of a Lear Fan daughter to suggest that the ROBERTO line could bring success for Turtle Bowl. Daughters from the Red Ransom, Dynaformer, Kris S and Silver Hawk strains will all create this cross.

The cross with MR PROSPECTOR will of course create the great Northern Dancer/Mr Prospector cross. Night Shift and Azamour have produced stakes winners to King's Best, Vettori, Zafonic and Lion Cavern daughters. With this, mares from the strains of Gone West, Machiavellian and Kingmambo will all create the same successful cross. From the SHARPEN UP branch of the Raise A Native line Trempolino is the dam-sire to two Night Shift stakes winners, which is the same sire line as Kris, Diesis and Selkirk.

Night Shift has sired his Gr 1 winner Night Style from a Law Society daughter so mares from the ALLEGED line are certainly worth using with Dyhim Diamond. Night Shift has also sired three stakes winners to Cadeaux Genereux line daughters. With this, any mare from the speedy Balidar branch of the HYPERION line will suit well.
