All our hopes will be riding on NATIVE KHAN (Azamour / Viva Maria) and RECITAL (Montjeu / Dibenoise) to fly the flag for the French breds.
RECITAL is already winner of the Gr.1 Critérium de St Cloud and NATIVE KHAN was a courageous third behind the machine FRANKEL in the Gr.1 2000 Guineas.
RECITAL was born and raised at R&M for Mme Renée Geffroy and NATIVE KHAN is bred by R&M. Both were sold by R & M at the 2009 Arqana August yearling sale.
Both worked well for their trainers this week and are cited as third and fifth favorites for the race.

First 2YO winner for TURTLE BOWL !
R&M stallion TURTLE BOWL had his first 2-year-old winner when the homebred FRENCH FIFTEEN (Spring Morning x Askalani) won at Wissembourg, on his second outing. The chestnut colt was sold by R & M at Arqana August 2010 for € 30,000 to trainer Nicolas Clement, on behalf of his client Raymond Tooth. His dam Spring Morning has Petite Etoile on her maternelle side and so, is herself a cousin of Zarkava.
TURTLE BOWL was a top miler winning the Gr.1 Prix Jean Prat , and placed in the Ispahan, Jacques le Marois and Queen Anne Stks. Trained by François Rohaut, Turtle Bowl was a winner at 2 and raced until 5-years-old. He is a physically imposing stallion whose stock are generally of the same build, and have the same characteristics as their sire.

This colt had already proved his worth as a 2-year-old, with 2 wins and 2 places in 5 outings incl. finishing second in the Gr.1 Prix Morny and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere. R & M congratulate owner the Marquise de Moratalla, who is a longtime client and friend at the stud; the discreet and talented trainer Didier Guillemin ; and loyal jockey Thierry Jarnet, who has been riding under the Marquise’s red and green silks for many years.

RECITAL takes Gr2, next stop EPSOM DERBY...
R & M bred RECITAL (Montjeu X Dibenoise) took the Gr2 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes under a strong ride from jockey Kieran Fallon.  Fallon had to work hard to keep RECITAL from hanging in the straight and trainer Aiden O’Brien stated afterwards  « I'm happy with that. When he gets in front he's very lazy. All going well the Derby is the plan, that was the reason behind Kieren [Fallon] riding him today." (Info Racing Post)

NATIVE KHAN finishes an excellent 3rd behind the sensational FRANKEL in the Gr.1 2000 Guineas.
The R&M bred NATIVE KHAN (Azamour / Viva Maria – Kendor), ran a fantastic race finishing 3rd  behind the uncatchable FRANKEL, in the Gr. 1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. FRANKEL passed the post 6 lengths ahead of his next rival DUBAWI GOLD, who had to battle to the wire with NATIVE KHAN  who finished ½ length behind him. An excellent performance for the only FR in the race.
After the race NATIVE KHAN’s jockey Olivier Peslier said that he ran a great race and could improve over a longer distance. His trainer Ed Dunlop was also delighted with his performance and said that he should go for the English or the French Derby.

Si Tu Viens continues his winning streak
Si Tu Viens’ 2011 comeback is proving successful as he took the Prix de Pau at Auteuil just over 2 weeks after winning the Prix St. Maixent (debuting over jumps) at the same racecourse. The gelding had a good 3-year-old career including a second in the Prix Stanley (Listed), but was out on the sidelines for the whole of 2010, due to injury. He looks to be set for a good year both over the hurdles and the fences.

A little bit of Chantilly at R&M
We are delighted with one of our latest foalings at R&M, which is a colt by FALCO ex BOCANEGRA by NIGHT SHIFT.
BOCANEGRA comes from the family of INDIAN ROSE, LE NAIN JAUNE, GROOM DANCER, etc. She is herself a winner and has produced 4 winners from 5 horses of racing age. What is even more interesting about BOCANEGRA is that she is owned by someone who has close ties to R&M, and who is also her ex-trainer : Alain de Royer Dupré !
Alain is taking his first venture in breeding and bought BOCANEGRA at the Arqana breeding sale last December 2010.
He just paid a visit to R&M and was delighted with his first foal, both by his looks and his excellent temperament which he has inherited from his dam.
We hope he has as much success in breeding as he does in training !
