Literato proved that is was one of the best 10 furlong horses in training in his era when he won the Champion Stakes (Gr 1), when beating a world-class field which consisted of no fewer than six previous Gr 1 winners. There can be no better example of the brilliance that this Grey Sovereign line offers breeders, especially as Literato is line-bred to the line via the strains Caro and Kalamoun.
Kenmare and his sons have had particular success with the NORTHERN DANCER line as over 60 stakes winners have been bred on the cross. DANZIG'S son, Anabaa, is the broodmare sire to Verglas' Classic winner Silver Frost (Gr 1). Other Danzig line mares that have produced stakes winners to the Kenmare line include Key Of luck, Green Desert (& sons), Danehill (& sons), Dayjur and Polish Precedent. It could also be productive to try the Grand Lodge strain via Sinndar.
The NUREYEV line is also worth considering as daughters of Nureyev, Neverneyev and Goldneyev have all produced stakes winners to Kenmare line-sires. With this, it is certainly worth also trying daughters of Peintre Celebre, Spinning World and Fasliyev to name a few.
The Kenmare/SADLER'S WELLS cross has produced eight stakes winners which includes the Racing Post Trophy (Gr 1) winner Medaaly. Daughters of Barathea, Montjeu, Galileo, Entrepreneur, Poliglote and In The Wings strains will all be well suited.
The NIJINSKY line is certainly another line that offers plenty of opportunity for Literato, as mares from the strains of Ninski, Caerleon, Royal Academy and Serheed are all proven with this sire-line. With this, Green Dancer, via the likes of Green Tune and Suave Dancer are well suited too.
TRY MY BEST line mares have also appeared in a number of the Kenmare line stakes winners. These include Last Tycoon, the dam-sire to Keltos, a son of Kendor. With this Marju and Alhaarth and Royal Applause will all be well suited.
t is not also surprising that the LYPHARD line daughters have proved to be a successful cross for the Kenmare sire-line. Mares by Alzao, Linamix, Funambule, Pharly, Second Set, Sicyos and Vacarme have all produced stakes winners on the cross.t.
Other Northern Dancer lines that are worth trying in particular include STORM BIRD, via Storm Cat and his genetic brother Mujadil, WHAT A GUEST and BE MY GUEST, via the likes of Double Bed.
From the Nasrullah line NEVER BEND mares look particular attractive for this son of Kendor. Both the Gr 1 winners Highest Honor and Stormy River were bred on Kenmare/Never Bend crosses. With this, mares from Riverman, Doyoun and Shirley Heights, sire of Darshaan, strains will suit Literato extremely well. BLUSHING GROOM line mares will also be very productive for Literato as the cross with the Kenmare sires has produced 24 stakes winners which included three Gr 1 winners in Reve d'Oscar, out of a Baillamont mare, Dedication, from a Sillery daughter, and Marotta, who was out of a Rainbow Quest mare. Other dam-sires that will suit include Rahy, Arazi, Groom Dancer, Crystal Glitters, Naswhan and Saumarez.
MR PROSPECTOR line daughters have also produced a number of notable stakes winners for Kenmare line sires. With mares from the Distant View, Machiavellian, Fappiano, Gone West, Woodman, and Miswaki are just some of the strains that are likely to fit. The SHARPEN UP branch, of this Raise A Native line, is another strain well worth trying.
