First ASTRONOMER ROYAL 2-year-olds on the track in 2012

The first ASTRONOMER ROYAL progeny will be hitting the racecourses very soon. His yearlings averaged an excellent €37,000 in the Arqana August Sale and were very well received at the Australian yearling sales, making up to $ 260,000 (Aus) at the Magic Millions Sale. His 2-year-olds are pleasing their trainers such as Jean-Claude Rouget, Mikael DELZANGLES, Eoghan O’Neill, Didier Guillemin, Patrick Monfort etc.

The evening of the 1st of January 2012 saw the arrival of the first foal at RM. The mare VIVA MARIA had a chestnut filly, ½ sister to Gr.3 Solario Stks and Craven Stks winner NATIVE KHAN, by RM stallion ASTRONOMER ROYAL.
ASTRONOMER ROYAL heads off to Oz

ASTRONOMER ROYAL will be leaving us this week to go into quarantine in preparation for his annual voyage to Australia.
He will stand this Southern Hemisphere season at Eliza Park Stud, after standing at Blue Gum Farm for the past two seasons.
Astronomer Royal’s first foals have sold very well in France and in Australia, and a syndicate of breeders have recently bought into this son of Danzig.
Astronomer Royal’s Australian fee has been set at A$8,000.
We look forward to seeing him back at Haras de la Reboursiere et de Montaigu at the beginning of next year.
ASTRONOMER ROYAL is back !

ASTRONOMER ROYAL has just arrived from Australia via Newmarket.
He's in terrific condition and ready to serve european broodmares.
He had a good second season in Australia, with the support of local breeders and he covered 70 mares, among them several Black Type mares; We are very optimistic with his first production.
His 2011 condition is 5000 euros LF.
He's waiting for your visit on Normandy Stallion Tour next 5th of february.  

Arqana Breeding Stock Sale 2010

ASTRONOMER ROYAL was the sire with the most foals in the 2010 Arqana Breeding Stock sale, with 8 foals presented  from his first foal crop.
 The 8 were an overall good looking bunch and were well supported in the sales ring making an average price of €27,333 and a median of €40,000 (for 6 sold).

Pedigree notes

Danzig was without doubt one of the greatest sires of modern thoroughbred breeding. Having achieved an impressive 18% stakes winners to foals of racing age, Astronomer Royal, a Poule d'Essai des Poulains (Gr 1) winner, offers breeders a chance to carry on this exceptional legacy. The Danzig/Alydar cross, which Astronomer Royal is bred on, is the same cross that has seen Danzig also produced the likes of Hard Spun, Lure, Bertolini and Mull Of Kintyre.



Breeding back to the Raise A Native line through it strongest influence,
MR PROSPECTOR, is sure to produce success. Machiavellian, Woodman, Kingmambo, Distant View and Gone West are the major strains that are sure to work. As Astronomer Royal is a half-brother to the Unbridled Gr 2 winner Navesink River it is certainly worth trying daughters from the Fappiano strain.



SHARPEN UP, another Raise A Native branch, via Kris, Diesis, Trempolino and Selkirk line daughters, is sure to produce success for Astronomer Royal as other Danzig line sires have shown considerable success on the cross. The ARCTIC TERN strain, which is active in France, is well worth trying, via Bering and his son American Post, as Danzig's son Orpen sired the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (Gr 1) winner Torrestrella on the cross.



The Turn-To line is also another line that is sure to cross with Astronomer Royal. ROBERTO line mares via Red Ransom, Silver Hawk, Dynaformer and Kris S, have produced stakes winners to Danzig and his sons.



The Northern Dancer line is another line that is sure to suit Astronomer Royal. The SADLER'S WELLS line via Barathea, In The Wings, Poliglote, Montjeu and Galileo are sure to be suited, as will FAIRY KING and his sons. NUREYEV'S sons Peintre Celebre, Stravinsky, Fasliyev and Spinning World mares will all be appealing for Astronomer Royal. Other Northern Dancer strains that are sure to be interesting include LYPHARD especially through the Linamix and Alzao as Gr 1 winners Aussie Rules, Clodovil and Rosanara are bred on the cross. Danzig sons have also had success to the NIJINSKY line. With this Caerleon, Kahyasi, Green Dancer, Green Tune, Hernando and Lomitas daughters will also create the cross. BE MY GUEST, via the likes of Double Bed, will also create a proven cross.


The Nasrullah line is another sire line that also had lots of success with Danzig. The BLUSHING GROOM branch, via mares from Arazi, Rainbow Quest, Rahy, Pursuit of Love, Nashwan and Sillery strains, are likely to give Astronomer Royal black type winners. NEVER BEND blood-lines are also suited to the Danzig sire-line, as Green Desert is bred on the cross. With this, mares from the Darshaan, Shirley Heights, Riverman and Doyoun strains will be ideal. The GREY SOVEREIGN branch has also been productive with Danzig as eight Gr 1 winners have been bred on the cross which includes Prix du Moulin (Gr 1) winner Grey Lilas. This cross will be achieved via mares from Kaldoun, Cozzene and Kenmare (sire of Highest Honor and Kendor) strains.



Mares that carry any of the RIBOT line could also be appealing as this is the cross that Danehill was bred on. With this any Alleged line daughters, such as Law Society, could be interesting. A cross with the HYPERION line is sure to create a precocious cross, via the likes of Cadeaux Genereux, Efiso and Thatching.

The German lines, SURUMU and DSCHINGIS KHAN, have also crossed with the Danzig sire-line to produce Gr 1 winners. From the Dschingis Khan line, daughters of Konigsstuhl, Monsun, Lavirco and Alkalde are all proven on the cross. Mares from the Acatenango, Mondrian and Platini strains, of the Surumu line, are also proven to stakes success with the Danzig line.
